feeder sound exclusive premiere: Madnax, Kanova (feat. Olivia & Masta B) – D.A.N.C.E. [Never On Monday]
A new label has emerged from the creative minds behind Caprices Festival, known for its iconic mountain-top electronic music experience. The imprint, aptly named Never On Monday, launches with a heavyweight debut VA featuring a stellar lineup of artists including Mathew Jonson, Argenis Brito, Guti, Madnax, Kanova, Olivia, Masta B and EVSTAD. This first release signals the Caprices team’s bold statement of intent, blending deep-rooted artistry with forward-thinking sounds spanning various genres and styles.
Forming a sensual yet abstract sonic circus, this collective has crafted music for over a decade, exploring house, techno, funk, downtempo, pop rock and everything in between and beyond. Over time, this shapeshifting art project has crystallised into several musical acts, each with its own style and spirit. The boundaries blur as collaborations across these artists have become the norm, going deep into experimental territory while keeping a solid groove going for the audience. Never On Monday is definitely not your average label, so expect unique sounds that intersect with collective and individual creative journeys alike.
Today’s exclusive premiere, “D.A.N.C.E.”, is brought forward by the American-Swiss duo Madnax, consisting of Nathan and Max, accompanied by Kanova‘s chuggy bass lines as well as Olivia and Masta B‘s psychedelic vocals. The track delivers a solid combination of breakbeat and funk that can make anyone start dancing in seconds. The sound is raw yet modern, elegantly merging the past and the present in a thundering dancefloor anthem.
The other tracks are equally engaging, while introspective moods come out of nowhere. Mathew Jonson‘s solo outing “Loves Mommy” opens the VA with an eighteen-minute excursion through delicately nuanced synth lines, jazzy keys, hypnotic textures and his signature robust rhythm section that smoothly blends with the ambient intro. As he joins Madnax for “Love Never Dies”, we get a resonant, steady-paced piece fueled by wobbling synth bleeps and textural tones which ebb and flow around dynamic drums, dubbed out keys and mesmerising vocal lines.
When Mathew, Madnax and EVSTAD join forces, something weird but intriguing happens. “Clown Syndrome” lays out an intricate amalgam of intertwined keys, chords and crisp drums, while hooky Latin vocals and accordion licks further fuel the playful downtempo vibe. Following, Argenis Brito and Guti‘s “Amazonico” renders a twisted mix of stripped-down drumming patterns, squelchy acid notes, swelling subs and mysterious vocal samples while EVSTAD‘s solo work “Yugen” closes the release with a trippy ambient journey through warbling pads, modulated percussive clicks, snaking bass tones and spoken word insertions, perfect for contemplation.
