James Dexter & Dominic Aquila – Inermu Wax 017 [Inermu Wax]

London-based label Inermu Wax brings forward the 17th release in its vinyl-only series with James Dexter and Dominic Aquila delivering three fresh cuts perfect for the dancefloor. The record focuses on an intriguing blend of minimal house and tech house, enriched with deep and dubby flavours that create an organic flow while keeping each track on a distinct level.

Launched back in 2015 by James Dexter, the main label Inermu counts 50+ digital releases signed by talented artists from all over the world, while its vinyl counterpart Inermu Wax saw the light of day in 2018 with a memorable Various Artists compilation, followed by amazing materials from the label head himself and artists like Tuccillo, Dudley Strangeways, Ryan Nicholls, Lose Endz, JHNS, Arkady Antsyrev, Sound Process, Daniel Meister and Fedo, among others.

With constant activity in the underground scene for quite some time now, James Dexter stands out with his club-ready house and techno music with a modern twist. Aside from his label, he also collaborated with Beatdown Music, Lost My Dog, Large Records, Dessous Recordings, Poker Flat, Bondage Music, Gruuv, Cyclic Records, Little Helpers, Sublease Music and Still Hot. He also hosts a monthly show on Bloop London Radio showcasing the latest and most popular tracks in the electronic music industry.

Known for his deep, dubby and minimalistic approach to house music, Dominic Aquila has been active as a DJ and producer for almost a decade, having notable releases on ventures like Chichi Music, Misplaced Recordings, Baile Musik, Tonic D Records, Piston Recordings, Pleasure In Mind, Blind Vision and Na Zrak. In time, he performed at various venues, including The Horse & Groom and King’s Head Members Club.

Side A opens with “Tougher & Darker”, an uplifting composition designed with punchy percussive patterns, a resonant bassline and intermittent vocal samples that add extra flavour to the whole journey. The carefully placed breakdowns create enough tension for the cut to fall under the peak-time category. Following, “Music For Dark Rooms” switches gears for a deeper sound where the background atmospheres are more prominent, laying out weaving pads that elegantly combine with the driving beat and dubbed out vocal samples. The B Side is reserved for “No Other”, which closes the EP with an equally dynamic arrangement that incorporates introspective breaks and swinging drums, making the 12″ a must-have for collectors, selectors and vinyl enthusiasts alike.
