Un-hidden Romania interview with Christopher Dyer

From Florida’s coastlines to Bucharest’s urban layers, artist and cultural traveller Christopher Dyer brings more than just colour – he brings intention, spirit, and a message of peace. Known for his vibrant, interdimensional characters and a deeply rooted connection to shamanic symbolism, Dyer’s murals are portals that blend street culture, spirituality, and social consciousness.

On his recent visit to Romania, he painted a powerful mural at Romexpo, dedicated to Ukraine and the universal longing for peace. ✌️💙 During his time in Bucharest, we vibed on art, graffiti, skateboarding, analogue wisdom, and the eternal need to leave behind more than pixels.

In this interview, we dive into his inspirations, collaborations, and impressions from Romania.

Murals / Transylvania / Shamanic Journey

Christopher Dyer & Klonism, Tatyana Yurievna and Un-hidden Romania

Un-hidden RomaniaHello, Christopher, it’s a pleasure having you with us. Meeting you in Bucharest was a delightful experience. You have painted a new mural at Romexpo. During this occasion, we spent a few moments on the streets of Bucharest, exchanging ideas about art, street art, graffiti, music, and many other topics. What motivated you to fly from Florida to paint in Bucharest?

Christopher Dyer: Hello! It was so cool to visit Bucharest last week!
A Ukrainian client friend (Tanya) who lives in California randomly asked me if I would fly to Bucharest to paint a mural that could serve as a visual Prayer for her suffering country at war. I don’t like seeing the pain of any nation or individual humans, so I accepted! The rest is in the hands of God, so help from you guys, and Klonism was so appreciated when I realised this project!

Un-hidden Romania: Could you share the inspiration behind this peace-themed piece?

Christopher Dyer: Well, I had to research Ukrainian culture to use symbols to express their beauty and call for peace in that nation.

The whole wall started as a giant Ukrainian flag, with the upper blue representing the sky and the lower yellow representing the wheat fields.

The traditional Sunflower was the centrepiece, and I added a graphic Peace Symbol in its centre. To the right, I drew an Interdimensional Angelic entity of artistic creation, sending Peace vibration from the other side of reality. To the left, we see a national Nightingale bird and a young traditional flower girl riding a horse. Klonism crushed that part of our collabo.

Un-hidden Romania: Have you previously collaborated with Klonism?

Christopher Dyer: I have painted side-to-side with him a few times, but this is the first time we have appropriately collaborated.

Un-hidden Romania: We are grateful for the copy of the Shamanic Journey book you gifted us. The message you inscribed was genuinely inspiring and deeply appreciated. What do you think is the role of printed books in a digital era?

Christopher Dyer: Hey, no problem! I am happy my book is now part of your collection!

So yeah, printed books are a thing of the past in this world, and they are constantly going digital. In a way, I suppose it’s good, as trees have to die to make paper, and there is a lot of “crap” out there that is not worthy of those tree lives.

But as an old-school dude, I love analogue media that I can use whether electricity or the internet is working or not. Books stay around in people’s homes to be enjoyed for the rest of their lives and passed on, while digital content can be buried and disappear in a matter of days. I put my heart into my art and expressions, so I invested in making something that would become part of people’s lives, not just Instagram entertainment that disappears quickly.

Un-hidden Romania: You also painted a “galaktic dude” in an abandoned factory. How did the spot and surface influence your artistic process?

Christopher Dyer: Yeah, my new friend took us to that old dirty, abandoned burnt, down soviet factory; it was so cool! I picked a wall calling me and played around with my leftover paint, doing a triple galactic dude. Then I even did a Fishbomb right next to it, too. I would have kept on going if I had more time, haha!
I love the juxtaposition of such a tarnished, dirty place with a piece that shares light. It seems out of place, which makes it more interesting. Like a Ying and Yang.

Un-hidden Romania: Beyond Bucharest, you visited Sinaia and Brașov in Transylvania. You did a few sketches with some old houses. How did these locations impact your creative perspective?

Christopher Dyer: Yes! I had to do some “normal” cheesy tourism, too. You can’t come to Romania and stare at the walls, haha. I really enjoyed journeying to the beautiful Romanian countryside, which has so much gorgeous architecture that I enjoyed drawing it into my journal. The Orthodox Christian churches touched me, and though I didn’t have the patience to enter Castle Bran (too many people), I enjoyed sitting in the lower regions, appreciating the village architecture that still stands.

Un-hidden Romania: Finally, what do you hope readers and viewers take away from your art and experiences?

Christopher Dyer: I like cultural exchange. I come to observe your culture, get inspired and then leave some of my own personal culture behind to inspire locals, too. My expression is interdimensional, so it is not quite human but a less physical dimension. My intention with my murals is to open up Portals of good vibrations that would positively impact the areas I paint.

Un-hidden Romania: Thank you, Christopher, for sharing your insights and experiences. Your work continues to inspire and uplift.

Christopher Dyer: I’m happy to hear that, man! I’m so stoked and grateful I got to visit your incredible country and city! I was humbled that locals knew of my work, too, and that they were happy to get some original art from me! Blessings!
