Apolinic – Pegasi EP (w. Root & Tommy Vicari Jnr remixes) [Saraw]
After several years of continuously operating in the digital underground, Saraw presents its first vinyl pressing, showcasing two original cuts from local artist Apolinic and two remixes, one signed by label owner Root and another by seasoned producer Tommy Vicari Jnr. With this release and a new chapter to follow, the label establishes itself as a beacon for electronic music, with a focus on sonic precision and ethereal atmospheres that explore the intersection of house, techno and minimalism. The mastering is provided by Mike Grinser at Manmade Mastering while Alexandru Andrei Petrea signs the artwork.
Teodor Ungureanu aka Apolinic or Theodor is a rising name in both the Romanian and international scenes, having several years of experience as a DJ and producer under his belt. In time, he collaborated with labels like Contrepied, Eleutheria Records, Evaporate, Mind Hub and Saraw while also dispatching several independent materials on his Bandcamp page. “Pegasi EP” is definitely his breakthrough vinyl debut and a must-have 12″ for vinyl collectors and selectors alike.
Side A opens with the mysterious and uplifting groove of “Alt Nod De Cravata”, a twisted minimal composition powered by driving drumming patterns, trippy effects, ethereal ethnic instruments weaving in the background and carefully placed breakdowns. Root‘s reinterpretation takes the original into a darker dimension, laying out pumping grungy drums, wobbling complementary layers as well as extended raw samples and breathing moments.
On the flipside “Sense Of” spirals deeper into dark minimal, delivering a hypnotic sonic affair perfect for dimly-lighted dancefloors while Tommy Vicari Jnr switches gears for an equally energising sound, yet infused with old-school acid house and breakbeat flavours.
