Toki Fuko – Phantom Scripts [spclnch]

The Dutch electronic music label spclnch (short for Spacelunch) presents the first chapter of their SPCLNCH BLACK series with Toki Fuko at the controls delivering four immersive ambient tracks in the form of “Phantom Scripts” EP. The concept aims to bring even more flavour to the imprint’s extended catalogue by exploring a sonic realm where sound becomes a gateway to the unknown, where minimalism, depth and mystery unfold through music.

Sergey Korotaev aka Toki Fuko is a Russian producer and DJ known for his atmospheric, hypnotic and minimalist approach to electronic music, often blending organic layers with intricate grooves. His sound incorporates ambient textures, dub elements and deep techno rhythms, often creating contemplative auditory experiences. In time, he collaborated with labels like Lowless Music, Astral Industries, Rosedale Records, Hypnus Records, Affin, Silent Season, Annulled and Submersive Records, among others.

Side A opens with “Rhapsody”, an enveloping composition that invites the listener to dive into introspective states of mind. Designed with weaving patterns of sparse drums and grainy background atmospheres, the track creates a sense of space and movement, building tension and mood. Following, “Dialogue 2” featuring Adhemar drops an ethereal soundscape where pulsating sub-bass frequencies merge with ever-evolving ghostly pads and phased percussion, all evolving into a spiralling affair.

On the flipside we first find “Insomnia”, a diaphanous cut that evokes a sense of timelessness through a carefully crafted arrangement of randomised chords, glitched effects and echoing synth stabs while “Jataka” closes the EP with a minimalistic drone powered by oriental motifs that elegantly intertwine with a main vocal sample that sounds like an old radio transmission.

“Phantom Scripts” is all about lost signals, vibrations beyond reality and rhythms carrying messages from the void. What lies behind these reports and why they appear remains unknown. Perhaps the answers are hidden in the darkness itself.
