feeder sound exclusive premiere: DoubtingThomas & Rem Kina – The Promises#8 [The Promises]
DoubtingThomas teams up with Kyoto-based music producer and experimental film director Rem Kina for The Promises#8, bringing forward five tracks that offer a forward-thinking take on minimal music, seamlessly blending underground rave influences with experimental grooves.
The EP unfolds as a mesmerizing sonic voyage, weaving together moments from DoubtingThomas’s recent tour in Japan. Infused with intricate field recordings and heartfelt narratives gathered along the way, it radiates an organic sense of connection and exploration. With driving rhythms and evocative soundscapes, the release delivers an immersive experience designed to resonate deeply with the soul.
“For Future Confusion” opens the material on a positive note, laying out a steady-paced beat that gets complemented by lush background atmospheres, weaving vocal samples and trippy effects. Following, “La Fievre” raises the tempo a bit and drops a dynamic journey designed with intricate combinations that create a spiralling sound perfect for dimly lighted dancefloors. The third cut, “Nagoya Trauma” switches gears for a darker soundscape where low-slung drumming patterns, twisted effects and ethereal vocals create a gloomy atmosphere.
Next up, our featured track for today “Mokuteki” dives deep into a rather serene mood, delivering a peaceful composition powered by resonant pads and shuffling percussion while the ambient edit of the intro track closes the EP with style, highlighting the complementary layers and removing the beat completely.
