Duc In Altum – Midnight Sun (w. Sepp & Priku ft. Dinu remixes) [Rhizome]

The 5th vinyl-only instalment in Rhizome‘s catalogue is brought forward by the Brazilian-Serbian duo Eric Frizzo Jonsson and Arjana Vrhovac Jonsson aka Duc In Altum. Titled “Midnight Sun”, the EP features two original cuts and two remixes, one signed by Sepp and one by Priku featuring Dinu. Expect a spiralling journey into the realms of minimal house, acid house and breakbeat.

Duc In Altum‘s debut on Rhizome‘s roster took place in 2020 with the “As Above So Below” digital mini-album while other materials signed by the duo were published by labels like Synthetic Gold Records, Serialism, D-Edge, CMOK, Cabana Music, Future Scope Recordings, Totoyov, Not For Us and DUB Culture, among others.

American imprint Rhizome was founded in 2018 and released its first pressing two years later featuring Paris Siris and Ben Jam aka JamRat alongside Melodie and Teluric as Glueped on remix duties. In time, international connections were established and more releases followed in both vinyl and digital formats. Contributing to the discography we find Max Coletto, Kike Mayor, Gustavo Fridman, Kinjo, Summit Dub, Sublee, Emi & Suciu aka Ritmico, Cosmjn, Bryz, Arthus and Tito Mazzetta.

Side A opens with the title track “Midnight Sun” laying out an electric sound powered by intense acidic osscilations, haunting background atmospheres and a driving beat that expands into the 303 line as the track progresses into a deep dancefloor burner. Following, Priku teams up once again with Dinu for a groovy and breezy remix, transforming the original into a slow-paced house-infused track perfect for the energy of the twilight.

On the flip we find “Yanomamis”, a dreamy and contemplative journey designed with shuffling drumming patterns and meandering pads that evoke vast spaces that could easily be inner worlds. Sepp closes the EP with his remix, taking the original to the heat of the dancefloor, as the core layers get an extra boost of groove and pulsating breakdowns that smoothly build up tension.
