feeder sound exclusive premiere: Mountain People – I Am The Void [We R The Aliens]
Following up on Ohm Hourani’s acclaimed EP “Barbara” which included a remix from Ricardo Villalobos and Amir Javasoul, We R The Aliens presents its 5th release in the form of Various Aliens II, the label’s second VA featuring the imprint’s co-founders Boronas & Snad, Istanbul duo Bärtaub, Beirut’s Nesta and André Schmid and Philippe Egger aka Mountain People, the protagonists of today’s exclusive premiere.
Founded in 2019 by Melina, Jakob Seidensticker of Wareika, Snad, and Boronas, We R The Aliens constantly delivers a forward-thinking sound that masterfully integrates the timeless elements of house, techno and pure electronica. This release makes no exception as it elegantly explores different styles, tempos and moods.
Opening the B Side, Mountain People’s “I Am The Void” reveals a groovy rhythm powered by shuffling drumming patterns smoothly intertwined with murky dubbed-out chords, highlighting the captivating potential of combining minimal house with dub techno elements.
On Side A we find the throttling vibe of “Affliction” by Boronas & Snad, a chugging composition designed with haunting synth work, rolling MPC percussion, meticulous backspins and mind-bending delays while Bärtaub’s “Orbit The Dance Planet” give strong nod to the 90s and the cult E-MU rompler as their track elegantly fuses bumpy breaks and robotic voices with eerie chords, a snaking bassline and flipping one-shots. Closing the VA, “Tarte Citron” by Nesta switches gears for a more uplifting sound, laying out old-school tech house percussion, airy synth flutters, bulging sub-bass tones and a catchy vocal sample.
