Boom Merchant releases raw and intense techno EP, “Another Dimension”

La La has been one of the breakthrough electronic music talents of recent times. She’s a Scottish artist who first broke through with the help of her radio show on Rinse FM, eventually leading to her residency on BBC Radio 1.

Brand New Records is a record label launched by La La. Its eclectic sound matches its owner’s techy style. La La has released lots of her music via Brand New Records, and the label’s new release is a techno EP by Boom Merchant.

Boom Merchant is an Irish artist who made waves within Scotland’s underground scene after spending numerous years living in Glasgow. Many inside the Scottish capital city know him as a resident DJ at the Surge nightclub, but he also has an international following and has played in countries ranging from Germany to Japan.

This is the first time that Boom Merchant has featured on Brand New Records, and the release features four original tracks with dark atmosphere and heavy percussion.

“Another Dimension” is the EP’s title track, and it combines breakbeat drums with a powerful vocal about going to another dimension. “Overlapping Auras” combines razor-sharp percussion with chopped vocal snippets, and “Hung Out” is a bass-heavy track with a quirky jazz breakdown. “Raptor” ends the release with a hulking groove that combines intense synths, engrossing vocals, and gritty percussion.
