The next instalment in Vivus Records‘ vinyl catalogue comes from local artist VincentIulian alongside label head Tobias Laun on remix duties. Titled “Subbass EP”, the release delivers a solid microhouse and minimal techno sound perfect for peak-time moments as well as the afterhours at any party, while adding even more magic to the imprint’s discography which includes productions signed by artists like Josh Wicks, Rowlanz, Silat Beksi, Laboratori OTK, Direkt, Macarie, Camelia, Vlad Arapasu, Haokah and label founders Tobias and Daniel Broesecke.

VincentIulian is the kind of name that needs no introduction. He’s one of the well-known DJs and producers coming from the highly-regarded Romanian scene and his evolution throughout the years tells its own story. He played alongside the biggest names in the industry, shared the decks with household names like Priku, Rhadoo or Cezar and published his own works with labels like Naural, Metereze, Moment, Atipic, UVAR, Acmé, Subtil and Eastenderz, among others.

While the original version of the title track “Subbass” delivers an engaging club-ready sound powered by futuristic vibes, stripped-down drumming patterns and a rumbling bassline, Tobias Laun‘s reinterpretation dives deep into chilled atmospheres while keeping to the initial energy. Here, the strong bass elegantly complements the warm background textures and lush breakdowns, closing the EP with style and a groovy mood.

Tobias Laun‘s love for music started early in his childhood when he developed a strong passion for playing the keyboard which hasn’t left him since. With impressive musical knowledge and an ever-evolving fascination with electronic music, Tobi has decided to start Vivus Records alongside Daniel Broesecke in 2016 and Particular in 2018.

On the A Side we find “Works” opening the release with a steady-paced rhythm, mesmerising chords and vivid melodies perfect for the afterhours and “At Chalet”, a twisted composition designed with broken beats, hypnotic rotating synth sequences and mysterious vocals cuts. This one rather qualifies as a powerful DJ tool, making the record a must-have for collectors and selectors alike.
