Originally released in 2011 as a 2-part story titled “Light Shades Of Detroit” and “Dark Shades Of Detroit” respectively, the LP was brought together in 2020 and was quickly sold out, so this upcoming pressing definitely is a moment to rejoice and probably the last occasion you can add this iconic record to your vinyl collection.

Delano Smith is a well-known electronic music producer and DJ who was born in Chicago and later moved to Detroit, where he became an influential part of the city’s underground house and techno music scenes. He began his career in the early ’80s, performing at numerous events and releasing inspiring singles and EPs on labels like Sushitech, Mixmode Recordings, Still Music, Undertones and Third Ear Recordings. Smith is widely known for his deep, soulful and melodic style of techno which incorporates elements of house, jazz and dub.

“Shades Of Detroit” packs 6 tracks, each designed with its own distinctive mood and groove. From the melancholic and introspective soundscapes of “Wires” and “Trying Times” to the funky and energetic rhythms of “Hypnotize” and “Change Is Coming“, incorporating the acidic touch of “Limbo” and the uplifting broken beats of “New Things“, the album seamlessly blends together some of the finest deep house and techno tracks signed by Smith, making this a timeless release that pays homage to Detroit’s musical heritage while pushing the boundaries of contemporary electronic music.
