Various Artists (Petit Batou & Phoq, Los Bastoneros, Minube & Andrey Djackonda, Dimitri Monev) – From Paris To Balkans Vol. 1 [Stamp Records]
French imprint Stamp Records returns to its Various Artist series with “From Paris To Balkans Vol. 1”, focusing on the sounds coming from Eastern Europe. Aside from French producers Petit Batou and Phoq, the record features Los Bastoneros from Romania, Andrey Djackonda and Minube from Moldova and Dimitri Monev from Bulgaria. Expect an inspiring journey through the infinite landscapes of minimal techno and microhouse.
Based in Paris, Stamp Records was founded by Petit Batou in 2015 and constantly delivers amazing materials on vinyl or in digital format. Among the collaborating artists we find Amin Ravelle, Alan Castro, Andrea Caioni, Costin Rp, Ernesto Ferreyra, Zenk, Vlad Arapasu, Lulla, Silat Beksi, Triptil and Andu Simion, who also provided the photo for this vinyl cover.
The opening track “Minsky” sees Petit Batou and Phoq teaming up once again for an exquisite ever-evolving composition that lays down a warm steady-paced rhythm smoothly flavoured with dreamy pads, spacious breakdowns and inviting vocal samples. Following, the Romanian trio Los Bastoneros drops “Osmosis”, a swinging cut designed with a playful bassline in focus, bright background textures and a swinging drumming core.
On the flipside we first find the vivid arpeggios of “Metaphysics” by Andrey Djackonda and Minube, an uplifting track that has all the necessary elements to be considered a powerful afterhours tool while Dimitri Monev closes the VA with “Perc Callin”, a rather abstract and chugging minimal techno cut best-fitted for dimly lighted dancefloors.
