Jamie Fairley – The Jazz Loving Adventurer (w. Paul K remix) [Deep Water Culture]
London-based record label Deep Water Culture presents its first vinyl pressing in the form of “The Jazz Loving Adventurer” EP signed by label co-owner Jamie Fairley alongside local artist Paul K on remix duties. The record was highly anticipated as the imprint’s digital releases and monthly show on Bloop Radio hosted by label heads Jamie and Jake Snows quickly captured the imagination and attention of many people from around the world.
Jamie Fairley is a DJ and producer with a rich experience in the electronic music scene, having performed at numerous events while releasing his own productions on labels like Fabric, Arupa Music, Kina Music, Baile Musik, 1Trax and Implimind. For this 12″ Romanian master of twisted minimal techno and a good friend of the label, Paul K joins in with a remix, adding an extra magic touch to the release.
Side A kicks in with “The Jazz Loving Adventurer”, a low-slung cut that rumbles through the frequencies with style, laying out a mysterious sound flavoured with dark tones, grainy textures, subtle glitched elements and a hypnotic drive powered by the steady-paced drumming patterns. Following, “A Rollers Perspective” keeps to the energy of A1 yet drops a more playful rhythm that integrates lots of variations, effects and complementary vocal cuts that receive deep and eerie modulations.
On Side B we first find Paul K‘s stripped-down reinterpretation of the title track which focuses on its percussion and glitched sequences, making the track perfect for stomping on the dancefloor in a dimly lighted club while “Dimension Unknown” closes the record with a wobbling sound infused with dubby insertions, solid synth stabs and a constant humming that takes the whole journey into a trance-inducing affair.
