exclusive premiere: Vlad Bretan – Contre Jour [Never Is Eternal]
The well-known Spanish record label Never Is Eternal returns to its digital playground with “Contre Jour EP” signed by local DJ and producer Vlad Bretan alongside Chrivu and Ignacio Morales on remix duties. All tracks deliver an elegant and engaging minimal techno sound which already enjoys support from artists like Mihai Pol, Nu Zau, Sepp, Silat Beksi, Crihan, Direkt, Jorge Savoretti, Kirik, Vern and Remus, among many others.
Constantly growing in the local scene, Vlad Bretan is a name you definitely have to be be familiar with. Starting as a hip-hop producer, moving towards Chicago house and finally ending into the Romanian minimal techno soundsphere, he gained recognition in 2017 when Seth Troxler played his edit of Kylie Minogue’s “Slow”. In 2018 he released his first EP on Basel-based label Studio 405 and won his first prize at the Sibiu DJ Awards for “The up and coming artist of 2018“. The year was completed by two appearances on Sang Out Of Tune Records. From there on, he started attending bigger parties and performing in worldwide-known clubs such as Midi, Control, Eden and Guesthouse while dispatching some of his productions with H24 Records, PhonicHouse1, Storytellers, Organic Society, Tzinah and Zebra Records.
“My idea with these tracks was to explore the darkness of the minimal genre yet preserve its groove through subby basses and weird percussions. Contre Jour is a photography process where the light comes from behind the subject keeping it in a shadow. Like in photography, this track is created around its outlines rather than a main theme. Capatdeline is a metaphor for a ride with the subway, meaning the journey in the underground scene until the destination.”
Vlad Bretan
“Contre Jour” names and opens the EP with a steady-paced rhythm that slowly expands into a pulsating affair designed with ever-evolving background textures, mysterious reverberating tones and subtle glitched layers that add extra magic to the whole composition.
The other original cut, “Capatdelinie” continues to build upon the concept of the title track yet drops a warmer vibe while the remixes provided by Chrivu and Ignacio Morales explore a dynamic approach flavoured with playful synth melodies, solid percussion layers and everything needed to make this release perfect for the dancefloor. A must-have for collectors and selectors alike right here.
