VA (Mathew Jonson, Cesar Merveille, Gianluca Pegoiani, Vinyl Speed Adjust) – VQ X EP II [Visionquest]

The iconic record label Visionquest returns with the second volume in their VQ X Various Artists series that celebrates 10+ years of intense activity in the international electronic music scene. This chapter features Mathew Jonson, Cesar Merveille, Gianluca Pegoiani and Vinyl Speed Adjust, all dropping timeless compositions that surely add even more magic to the imprint’s extended catalogue. The artwork is signed by Christopher Mohn.

A true beacon for modern techno and house music, Visionquest was founded in 2011 by Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss and Seth Troxler, bringing forward numerous memorable showcase events around the world as well as over 80 record releases which include productions signed by artists like Ema Remedi, Benoit & Sergio, Tale Of Us, Guy Gerber, Mirko Loko, Butch, Laura Jones, Wareika, Dinky, Deadbeat, Iuly.B, Alexi Delano, Peshka and Floog, among many many others.

Side A opens with one of the most important underground producers of the last 20 years, Mathew Jonson, who lays out “These Tears”, a driving cut designed with punchy 808 flavours, weaving synth stabs and mysterious tones that will make you feel like flying through space at hyperspeed while being in your calmest state of mind. Up next, Cesar Merveille keeps to the energy of A1 with “Decennium”, a track that perfectly blurs the line between the future and the past with a specific sound that blends that ’90s digital vibe with the modern modular analog sound.

On the flipside we first find Gianluca Pegoiani’s “Wonder Wheel” which switches gears for a more pumping sound focused on carefully crafted sub tones that slowly rise and fall in pitch, random eerie synth patterns and a syncopated repeating key tone that keeps the track moving forward while the closing cut “Dirty Pathways” by the local duo Vinyl Speed Adjust reveals a twisted amalgamation of low-slung broken rhythms and basslines that merge with slow-evolving background pads in order to create a hypnotic affair.
