After an inspiring release from Dubfound, Ukrainian label Modeight returns with another superb 12″, this time with UK-based brotherly duo Clay and Heath Ostrer aka Last Pines at the controls. Titled “Solon EP”, the material delivers a solid minimal sound smoothly infused with deep and seductive arrangements, perfect for peak-time moments as well as the afterhours at any party. A fresh presence in the international underground scene, the duo surely delivers the vibes so stay tuned to their online channels for upcoming releases and news.

Modeight has been at the forefront of modern electronic music since it was launched by Silat Beksi in 2016, always bringing forward amazing releases and showcase events. Among the collaborating artists we find Olivian Nour, Dragutesku, RQZ, Incolor, Paul K, Zlatnichi, Venda, Ali Demir and Swoy, among many others. This EP makes no exception from the top-quality rule and definitely counts as a new chapter in the duo’s artistic journey.

A flip to the B-Side and we first find “Nocturnal”, a darkly hued, warehouse-worthy jam, designed with a driving steady-paced rhythm that progressively incorporates a rattling bassline, heavily-modulated vocal samples, subtle glitched elements and spiralling tonal overlays. What a massive dancefloor tool right here.

Dropping the same amount of energy yet having their own particularities, the other tracks are equally solid while sharing common frequencies in order to create an immersive ride. Similar to B1, the title track “Solon” punches through the soundsystem with style yet displays a more playful construction infused with shuffling drumming patterns and a subtle funky swing doused in bleeps and glitches. In elegant contrast, “Drift” and “Go Ahead” receive additional warm and evolving background textures, meandering effects and spacious breakdowns, making this record a must-have for collectors, selectors and electronic music enthusiasts alike.
