RWN – Apres L’Heure [Koi Series]
Next up on Re.Face’s side venture Koi Series is non-other than French DJ and producer Erwan Goudard aka RWN who drops four original fairy tales that reveal a world of extra-tight drumbeats, tangled atmospheres, hip-swinging percussions and timeless minimal techno sounds, all rolling together into “Apres L’Heure EP”. We invite you to find out more about the label and its artistic direction from our previous EP Reviews of the materials signed by Core, Peshka and Liro.
With releases on Fake Society, Abduction, Moulinet, Aesthetic, Midas Touch, Kontent and Micro Orbit Records as well as numerous amazing live performances under his belt, RWN has steadily made a name for himself and managed to bring forward a distinct sound for all electronic music lovers out there. This record makes no exception.
“Stories of youthful essence have been handed down for centuries, crossing lush valleys and insidious waterways. Straight from majestic castles, you’re listening to prophecies concerning the emissary RWN. The drawing knows no boundaries. It listens. It explores. A starry sky with at least one planet. It’s night already, but the journey has been pleasing after all. I keep looking forward. I await, smiling.”
Side A kicks off with the title track “Apres L’Heure” laying out a warm and immersive composition powered by a steady-paced rhythm enveloped in spacious atmospheres, ever-evolving pads and lush breakdowns. Following, “August Rain” switches gears for an ethereal stripped-down sound where reverberated vocal cuts fall into focus as the other layers spin into a dubby affair.
On the flipside we first find “Astrox”, an electric cut perfect for laid-back afternoon selections or the afterhours. Here, the meandering background textures smoothly intertwine with a solid bassline, a driving rhythm, mysterious whispers and subtle progressive aspects. Closing the 12″, “Forgive” dives deep into minimal and microhouse, delivering a melancholic journey designed with downtempo and psychedelic influences. A must-have for collectors and selectors alike right here!
