Leanca – Midnight Robber [Mödum]
After a successful label launch with Vadim Oslov alongside Vid on remix duties last year, the British venture Mödum returns with its second pressing, this time inviting local artist Leanca to deliver three fresh tracks in the form of “Midnight Robber” EP. The Manchester-based platform is well-known for its activity in the international electronic music scene, having numerous events and podcast transmissions under its belt. This record definitely adds even more magic to the whole journey.
With releases on Alter Hour, Hashplant, Ochii, Kontent, Latch, Sanguina and Subtil, Vlad Leanca has rapidly made a name for himself and he’s not willing to stop here. Bringing forward a distinct take on minimal and microhouse, the artist loves to experiment with various styles and techniques so it’s no wonder to see him share the decks with renowned DJs or have his music played at major festivals or underground events all around the world.
The EP sets sail with the title track “Midnight Robber” laying out a low-slung and twisted groove that renders the pace of the record. Expect dark tones, glitched effects and hypnotic modulated vocals that create an eerie atmosphere perfect for dimly lighted dancefloors. Following, “Downbelow” maintains the energy of A1 while exploring further into the deepest reaches of minimal while on the flipside “Chimical” smoothly completes the trip with a segmented and stripped-down rhythm flavoured with mysterious textures and synth arrangements.
