Traumer – Cercle EP [UVAR]

Romanian electronic music powerhouse UVAR returns to its main vinyl-only series with French artist Traumer at the controls delivering “Cercle EP”, a steaming four-tracker designed with uplifting minimal techno sounds perfect for the dancefloor. Headed by Nu Zau and Sepp, the label is widely known for its unforgettable showcase events and timeless releases signed by prominent figures in the local scene, such as Arapu, Vlad Caia, Crihan, Ada Kaleh, Barac, Livio & Roby, Andrei Ciubuc, Direkt and Vid, among many others.

The 16th entry in the catalogue features Gettraum’s head chef Traumer, a heavyweight name in the Parisian electronic music culture and beyond. His distinct approach to minimal techno is definitely imprinted in this EP, adding even more magic to a legacy that includes collaborations with Infuse, Subtil Records, Berg Audio, Get Physical, Desolat, Klangwelt and All Inn Records, to name just a few.

Side A opens with “Cercle”, a meandering composition powered by a solid groove infused with bright reverberating chords, dubby synth stabs and an ever-evolving drive that incorporates short breakdowns in order to keep the energy level up. Following, “Commited” slides into a hypnotic uptempo carousel of rhythms and textures carefully crafted with a powerful dancefloor-oriented sound.

On Side B “Contropa” dives into a low-slug and electric atmosphere smoothly flavoured with robotic vocals and twisted effects while the closing cut “Expat” switches gears for a rather different thing, unleashing a chugging broken beat fueled by UK garage, electro and breakbeat elements. What a ride!
