Baasmal – Mekong (w. Vern Remix) [Kanja Records]
Slovenian imprint Kanja Records announces its next pressing to arrive soon in a limited number of copies with the Baasmal trio at the controls alongside local artist Vern on remix duties. Designed with steaming and truly immersive minimal and microhouse rhythms and textures, “Mekong” EP sure delivers the vibes, adding extra spice to the label’s catalogue which also features amazing works coming from the likes of Widovski, Felipe Bravo, Soyro, Vincent Casanova, Petit Batou, Daniel Gorziza, Tito Mazetta and F.eht, among many others.
Founded in 2019 by Reezak and Fahd from Morocco as well as RazV from the USA, the Baasmal project has been a fresh presence on the international electronic music scene, performing at renowned venues while dispatching some of their own productions with labels like Insound Recordings, Looking Back, PhonicHouse1, Micronica, Resonance, Inwave, Saint and Don’t Music, DubGestion, Tip Tap, Ubiyu and Conceptual Records, to name a few.
Side A opens with the title track “Mekong”, an immersive composition flavoured with progressive and psychedelic touches, perfect for the dancefloor. The hypnotic arrangement smoothly surfs the soundwaves, laying out a truly engaging vibe that’s expanded on the next cut “Kilauea”, named after the well-known Hawaiian volcano. Expect a shaking yet laid-back sound, best fitted for the afterhours.
As we switch to Side B we first find the original take on “Kilimandjaro”, a warm and driving arrangement that focuses on its subtle dub melodies and spacious background textures as well as Vern‘s reinterpretation which dives deep into bleeping minimalistic dimensions and bubbly glitched takeovers.
