Fumiya Tanaka – Deep One [Perlon]
Berlin-based record label Perlon continues to add even more magic to its extended catalogue, this time announcing PERLON133 by Japanese DJ and producer Fumiya Tanaka to soon hit the shelves in a limited number of copies at selected record stores worldwide. Founded in 1997 and run by Zip, Markus Nikolai and Chris Rehberger, the imprint is widely known in the underground music community, having dispatched timeless productions from Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Väth, Pantytec, Baby Ford, Dandy Jack, Melchior Productions Ltd, Sammy Dee, A Guy Called Gerald, Margaret Dygas and Wareika, to name just a few.
With an artistic career that spans over 25 years, Fumiya Tanaka is a well-known presence on the international electronic music scene, having countless performances and releases under his belt. His recent works and selections have been refined after his experimental and more housy grooves released under aliases such as Karafuto, Individual Orchestra or Tofu Productions, alongside Thomas Melchior, combining various elements in order to expand on new possibilities. Aside from his own playgrounds Torema Records and Sundance he also collaborated with labels like Perlon, Tresor, Chaos Ltd, Minibar, op.disc and Aspect Music, among others.
On Side A we find the title track “Deep One”, an uplifting composition powered by a solid broken beat that leads deep jazzy chords and mysterious vocal samples into a hypnotic carousel of house-infused sounds smoothly flavoured with wobbling synth patterns. On the flipside we easily get lost in the meandering melodies of “I’m Standing Beside You”, a deep bass-laden cut designed with immersive textures that constantly build tension and a laid-back drumming core with a relentless drive. If you don’t have this record already, now’s your second chance to get it and add it to your vinyl collection.
