Interpolarm – Cote Mecanique EP [Goodbye Royalty]
The Russian project Interpolarm is back in action with their second vinyl release “Cote Mecanique EP” alongside local artist MP aka Mihai Popescu on remix duties. Released via Goodbye Royalty, the duo’s vinyl-only playground launched back in 2020, the record delivers solid minimal and microhouse sounds elegantly crafted with analog machines and classic instruments.
Denis and Max are widely known for their activity in the electronic music scene under various aliases as well as for their intense live performances as Interpolarm. Aside from their vinyl and digital releases on their own labels, they’ve also collaborated with imprints like Bethlem, Cyclic Records, Related and Wizz Music. Offering the audience a fresh communication algorithm, this duet clothed in minimal, microhouse, deep house, acid house and dub techno slides on the verge of romance, humor and technology.
Side A opens with the warm and engaging vibes of “Required”, a hypnotic composition that has long been a hallmark of the duo’s live performances. Boldly combining the wobbling basslines of the TB-303 with ever-evolving background textures and timbres, the journey creates a reverent and emotional response to the sounds, perfect to be enjoyed on the dancefloor.
On the flipside we first find the original take on “Cote Mecanique”, a steaming microhouse arrangement that takes influence from French house, just as the vocal sample implies throughout the track. Mihai Popescu‘s remix reveals a lighter and funky mixture with a prominent bass in focus leading crisp percussive patterns and swinging chords.
