r.hitect – common souls EP [r.hitect]
Romanian artist r.hitect returns to his eponymous label with “common souls EP”, delivering three fresh cuts designed in his distinct style, merging minimal and deep techno textures with subtle progressive aspects and this time with a touch of dub as well. The material follows the release of six other records, an amazing collection of modern rhythms and textures, some of which have included collaborations with Barac and Remus.
Keeping a mysterious haze around him since he deployed his first productions, r.hitect always delivered top-quality sounds through his works, rapidly gaining success in the international electronic music scene. His rare live appearances definitely contributed to this, but no one can deny the amazing sound of his releases. Aside from his own venture he also contributed with a track on Barac‘s Moment Records MMNT007 VA and other projects as well.
Side A opens with the title track “Common Souls”, a steady-paced minimalistic composition that lays out a steaming flow of hypnotic rotations and weaving effects, immersive chords and inspiring arrangements. The groove is well-placed in the drumming patterns, having a subtle funky flavour hidden in the bassline. Following, “Isometrics” reveals another kind of sound, smoothly crafted with an uptempo approach to the beat and a warm overall atmosphere. Here, the background textures fall into focus, lead by the organic approach to the percussion.
On Side B we find “Sees”, a dubby cut that reverberates through the spectrum with style. The delayed elements and the laid-back vibe render this track perfect for early-morning sessions. A highly recommended 12″ right here for collectors and selectors alike!
