Andrew Weatherall – Vol. V (w. Rhadoo and Ricardo Villalobos Remixes) [DisDat]

The 5th release coming from DisDat is dedicated to Andrew Weatherall, a true pioneer and master that has shaped electronic music culture as we know it today. Split into two distinct records, Vol. V reveals two original tracks and sees Rhadoo and Ricardo Villalobos taking on remix duties, adding extra spice to the label’s discography that contains four various artists compilations featuring artists like Zendid, Melchior Productions, Barac, Dorian Paic, Federico Molinari, Cedric Dekowski, Felix Reifenberg and Lee Burton, among others.

Andrew Weatherall worked in and showed enthusiasm for a wide variety of genres while running his labels Sabres Of Paradise, Emissions Audio Output, Bird Scarer Records and Moine Dubh. Aside from his own playgrounds, he released numerous materials with imprints like Rotters Golf Club, Byrd Out, Nuphonic, Firewire, Bleep and Fabric, to name only a few. In February 2020 he dies suddenly at the age of 56, leaving behind a monumental legacy for the electronic music movement worldwide. Joining this material with astonishing remixes, Romanian minimal icon Rhadoo of [a:rpia:r] and Chilean legend Ricardo Villalobos pay homage with style, elegantly adding their fingerprint sound to the whole journey.

“During the final years of his journey, Andrew made an unforgettable impact on the ReSolute dancefloors with his all night long sets expanding beyond 8 hours. Really embracing the ethos of the New York underground during these visits, he left behind a gift, that we are humbly sharing with the world.”

“Y.W. Eleven” drops an electrifying sound, driving the mind and body to another level. Flavoured with electro and acid house influences, the cut brings forward a hypnotic combination of distorted synth riffs alternated with beautiful chord progression and powerful drum machine percussion set at around 114 bpm. On the flipside Rhadoo takes the original into a groovy dimension, raising the tempo and adding a mellow yet powerful bassline, sprinkled with sound oddities and micro textures which keep the mind occupied while the body surrenders to the rhythm.

“Y.W. Fourteen” slides in with IDM influences, smoothly balanced by house insertions, breakbeat patterns and old-school arrangements perfect for the dancefloor. The background effects and complementary layers add intense body-moving vibes to the table while Ricardo‘s reinterpretation on the B-Side goes deep into minimalistic affairs, delivering an outstanding tool best played at peak time moments.
