Dubfound – Siberian Punch EP [The Aviary]
After a successful launch with Root at the controls, The Aviary returns with its second pressing, inviting Moldavian Dj and producer Dubfound to deliver three solid minimal tracks in the form of “Siberian Punch EP”. The material explores deep and twisted minimal grooves, taking the label’s intricate vision of modern electronic music even further into uncharted sonic dimensions while providing some solid weapons for dancefloors worldwide.
Owner of Swoon, Nurum, Tobus and Zimotik, Dubfound is well-known for his intense activity in the underground scene, having numerous parties and releases under his belt. Aside from his ventures he also worked with imprints like Memoria Recordings, Fox Trax, Third Wave Black, Sleep Is Commercial, What Now Becomes, Heisenberg, Pleasure Zone and Rawax, among many others, always dropping top-quality sounds for the people.
Side A is reserved for the title track “Siberian Punch”, a low-slung composition designed with eerie atmospheres and effects that seem to evoke the vastness of the northern Russian territories. The steady-paced drumming patterns are elegantly complemented by spacious breakdowns and ever-evolving arrangements that constantly build tension and drive. On the flipside we first find the twisted vibes of “Cheburashka Is Dead”, a syncopated rhythm that spirals into a hypnotic ride smoothly infused with engaging vocal samples and alluring background textures. “Zapara Elephant” closes the record with style, laying out a groovy swing flavoured with subtle jazzy chords, glitched layers and rolling broken beats. A highly recommended 12″ for collectors and selectors alike.
