exclusive premiere: Dragutesku – Extaz [VRNT]
After Dragutesku was present on VRNT‘s first limited pressing with an amazing remix for Topology‘s “Halah”, the Romanian artist returns to the label’s LTD series with a solid three-tracker titled “Extaz EP”. Designed with warm and dreamy minimalistic themes, the material provides a smooth introspective sound perfect for laid-back selections at any party or personal easy-listening sessions at home.
Based in Calgary, Canada, VRNT is headed by April Terry and aims to connect the local scene with an international audience passionate about modern electronic music with a focus on minimal, microhouse and closely related genres. Their activity includes the release of digital and vinyl materials, organising showcase events and running an inspiring podcast series. Among the collaborating artists we find Orlesko, Josh John, DJ Dine & Dash, Jay Tripwire, Suolo, Vern and Rowlanz, among others.
Introducing itself with a funky bassline and a swinging rhythm that seems to constantly build tension, “Extaz” drops a steady-paced yet energising vibe. The playful arrangements and inviting vocals are elegantly enveloped into bright background textures and pads that take their time to fully deliver their moods, creating an organic and highly engaging atmosphere. Following, “Emergent” switches gears to a darker minimal sound where the percussion is lead by abstract sequences and twisted elements while the breakdowns add an extra eerie feeling to the whole.
On the flipside, “Venus” returns to a steady tempo and explores deep states of mind, taking the listener into cosmic travels beyond Earth through a subtle melancholic narrative embedded in the track. A highly recommended 12″ right here that arrives in a limited number of copies. Listen to the snippets below:
