exclusive premiere: Paul Quzz – Driver [Yuna Imprint]
Canadian artists Devv and Paul Quzz join their forces to bring forward a mysterious and unique vinyl project. The debut release for the new label dubbed Yuna Imprint sees the two producers delivering a split record, each having two original tracks on each side, showcasing their style alongside some curiously exceptional artwork. Early support arrives from Storytellers, Recordeep and Rayzeh.
Devv has built himself a solid reputation in the Canadian house music scene as one of its most creative, upcoming producers, tirelessly working on improving and refining his sound. Among the labels he collaborated with throughout time we find Blind Vision Dubs, Madtech, Kina Music, Monocord, Unknown Label, HouseOnWax, Stash Trax and Farmat Records. Paul Quzz takes his craft as seriously and with as much passion as you would expect from an artist working towards building a foundation for his local scene. One half of All Blak Records and Press+Fold Shop, his diverse taste in music is evident throughout his track selection and his taste for different genres blends throughout his performances. It is not the first time the two producers deliver outstanding vibes together and this wax makes no exception from that rule.
A raw, 90s rave inspired techno track meant for nightclubs and sweaty dance floors, “Driver” drops deep, ominous pads, eerie vocal samples and a grungy bass-laden percussion in order to make you feel like may just be on the brink of madness. The energy transmitted is felt from the very first second to the last, so adjust the volume of your speakers and enjoy the ride exclusively on feeder sound. Paul’s other track on the B-Side, “Jam One”, gives us a faster, more playful vibe to complete the wax, offering warmer tones, elastic sounding bass and glitchy percussion elements rolling on throughout the track intelligently.
Devv opens Side A with “Sundial”, a track with an infectious groove from off the hop. The narrative steadily leads the listener to a place of euphoria, filled with swirling pads and bright, stabby leads. Following, “Why Are We Here” takes us on a bit of a darker trip, with a moodier bassline and crisp, driving drum patterns. Dreamy synth layers and a delayed vocal sample round out the track in an elegant fashion.
YUNA 002 is coming soon and this release will feature two remixes by DoubtingThomas and Black Loops, so stay tuned to the label’s channels for the latest updates.
