It is Bandcamp Friday and we have a brand new release!

“Dub is not far from jazz. King Tubby was a jazz head, Lee Scratch Perry too, they were jazz heads originally, and most of the session musicians are jazz heads. So you got to get into jazz and I’m glad that my brother taught me about Charlie Parker and Herbie Hancock. Nowadays we have Courtney Pine, each generation comes with a new thing, and it’s an attitude, so dub to me is almost like a technical form of jazz. That’s how I look at King Tubby, he would express his interpretation of the music through dub, even though that wasn’t the original concept. To me it was always like he was making jazz, even though it’s dub, because he would use the equipment to make the textures, solos, breaks or whatever.

I would try and do things that were unusual electronically, a smoother sound, or I might want something that was more abrasive But people don’t use technology any more.” Paul Smykle in an interview with David Katz

“Jazz and dub are unison foundation. Here are some names to prove it: Sly & Robbie Meets Nils Petter Molvaer + Eivind Aarset & Vladislav Delay, Monty Alexander, Ernest Ranglin, New Zion Trio, Hamid Drake & Bindu, Mei Tei Sho, Bill Laswell, Jah Wobble, Sons of Kemet, Nubya Garcia, Ezra Collective, Nubiyan Twist, Mark Guiliana, Jon Batiste, Quantic and Theo Crooker. Most of them have at least a dub jazz album if not many songs where the jazz philosophy clashes with dub art and science.

This is the reason why my local hero, Iordache had to get the duppy dub treatment. I chose Titan from Titan Suite because of the psychedelic lyrics and superb nostalgia. In another life I used to live near Trapezului Market and the images the song paints are vivid memories. More jazz, more dub!” Obeah

The Sound of Art to Come Records is a Transylvanian based record label, home of Dub, Electronic and Experimental music outcasts and exploring mavericks. Deep in the heart of Romania, SoAC transmits from the dimension of The Shape of Dub to Come. They curate, collage and remix Duppy dubs and Duppy riddims inspired by Jamaican horror film soundtracks.

After ten years of making eclectic music, the dub ghost musician from Romania has tuned-in to another frequency creating Lil Obeah from Transylvania. When it comes to his sound, he defines it as duppy dub from a parallel universe. Obeah works with professionals in the music business, from Bucharest-based producer Marius Costache of Studio148 to international stars like Dub Colossus, Transglobal Underground and Dreadsquad. His remix work includes local artists like Tony Baboon, Oigăn & Ana Ularu, international sound clashers like Dubmatix, Dub Pistols, Prince Fatty, Ghetto Priest and Denise Sherwood, but also fictional acts like Reefah Madniss from Berlin.

The artist considers Dub music sound art and aims to create a forever authentic Romanian horror film soundtrack with his songs and remixes.
