VA (Chrivu, Hippex, Kivva, Sonohat) – KNTNT004 [Kontent]

Local record label Kontent announces its fourth vinyl-only instalment to arrive soon in the form of a Various Artists compilation that features solid minimal music designed by Chrivu, Hippex (Hipp and Alex Ungureanu), Kivva and Sonohat. The imprint was launched in 2019 with a three-tracker signed by the label’s owner Vlad Arapasu, followed by two EPs from Macarie and Leanca. All materials enjoyed massive international support and this VA makes no exception. Last year the venture explored the online dimensions through Digital Kontent on Bandcamp, releasing a selection that features 10 incredible artists from across the globe while also starting an inspiring podcast series which so far reveals three episodes. More is on the way, so stay tuned!

Side A opens with Chrivu’s “The Heyday Of Youth”, a groovy and steady-paced cut that will make you want to move your body in an instant. The funky bassline leads the drumming patterns and the background elements with ease while twisted effects and vocal cuts add an extra layer of joy. Following, “Drowning By The Light” sees Hipp and Alex Ungureanu team up under the Hippex alias for a stripped-down ride flavoured with subtle dub influences and melancholic vibes.

On the flipside “1’st Century” by Kivva drops a solid minimal theme designed with prominent percussive elements and one sturdy bassline. Here, the narrative is characterised by an endless motion of sounds making this piece perfect for the dancefloor. Closing the wax there’s Sonohat’s “Modelar”, a deeper piece powered by a continuous eerie resonance that spins into a hypnotic affair at around 123 bpm. Another firm and fitting statement for Kontent, as the label proves the talent isn’t just at the top.
