Root, Paul K – Society Of Illusions EP [Symetric Sound]
Tunisian producer Root and Romanian artist Paul K team up for the first pressing coming from Symetric Sound, a local vinyl-only label and concept showcase focused on contemporary audio and visual production. Titled “Society Of Illusions EP”, the record features two tracks that explore deep and resonant minimal rhythms and textures, with the mastering being provided by Pheek and the artwork by Azyz Kabada.
Last year, in order to raise funds for Lebanon’s struggling capital and raise awareness about Beirut all over the world, Symetric Sound invited Ahmed Samy, SIT and Andrey Pushkarev to perform inspiring DJ sets in tandem with the label’s vision. This combined with their promoting activities eventually lead to the first wax to be released and yes, it sure delivers! Both Root and Paul K elegantly blend their distinct take on dark and twisted minimalism, dropping a steaming 12″ perfect for dimly lighted dancefloors.
Side A is reserved for “Societatea Iluziilor”, an eerie composition designed with a thumping rhythm set at 125 bpm lead by a ghostly choir of glitched vocal samples, haunting background layers and an ongoing trippy synth pattern. On Side B “Tunnel Pit” reveals an equally hypnotizing soundscape that seems to mimic biomechanical structures tangled in stripped-down drumming patterns elegantly complemented by spacious breakdowns. The bleeps, glitches and all the spiralling effects merge into an organic flow that will definitely entrance anyone.
