Dubtil – Anume EP [a:rpia:r]
After almost a four-year hiatus the notorious Romanian label [a:rpia:r] returns with “Anume EP” signed by local DJ and producer Dubtil. The record features three solid minimal cuts designed with prominent tech & breaks influences while it adds even more magic to the imprint’s catalogue which also includes materials from heavyweight artists like Thomas Melchior, Dan Andrei, DJ Sneak, Priku and Ricardo Villalobos, aside from timeless works delivered by its founders Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu and Raresh.
Bucharest-based Istoc Robert, aka Dubtil, remains a mysterious yet highly influential presence in local and international scenes, being active for more than 8 years now. He performed at numerous parties and festivals throughout the time while bringing forward inspiring productions with labels like Metereze, Understand, Amphia, BP Mind Series and Nervmusic. With all that, many other tracks remain unreleased to this day. He’s also well-known for his collaboration with Barac as NoiDoi launched back in 2009 with EPs on Love Letters From Oslo and Barraca Music.
Side A reveals a lengthy journey built around dark textures and chugging drumming patterns. The robust bassline falls into focus here and leads the abstract effects and several variations, making this piece perfect for dimly-lighted dancefloors. Side B opens with a steady-paced rhythm defined by a constant progression where reverberating synth stabs, and heavily modulated vocal cuts add a mysterious feeling to the whole narrative. Simultaneously, the closing track unleashes a warm, laid-back sound where the breakbeat sequences and bassline empower an engaging and funky affair. A must-have for collectors and selectors right here!
