Joren Edwards – Atipic 012 [Atipic]

The 12th record from Atipic‘s main vinyl-only series is announced to drop in May, with Dutch artist Joren Edwards being the one behind two fresh end very enjoyable minimal cuts that will definitely make their way in numerous selections. Fronted by Priku, the Romanian venture is well-known to the local and international community, yet is always worth mentioning the fact that their activity and releases (main series + Atipic Lab series) deliver top-quality vibes every time. Now, the young Utrecht-based DJ and producer join the family with a blast, adding even more magic to the catalogue with this incredible release. He was also our guest for episode 210 of the feeder sound podcast series which we invite you to enjoy below:

Joren Edwards made his debut as a selector at an early age, playing at numerous locations across The Netherlands while he dispatched his first EP with Archie Hamilton‘s Moss Co, followed by solid collaborations with PIV Limited and VBX Music. His distinct style can be described as a smooth fusion between minimal and deep tech, a fact that brought him on line-ups alongside Ferro, Sonja Moonear, Reiss, Rhadoo, Gescu and Ion Ludwig, along with support from other established artists as well. This material right here will make no exception from his outstanding production skills!

The two tracks remain untitled and provide an equally inspiring vibration on both sides while expressing very different approaches to the possibilities of modern techno music. Side A reveals an ethereal and steady rotation elegantly blurred in dubby chords and reverberating arpeggios to which swirling effects and a hypnotic vocal sequence elegantly modulated through spacious electro dimensions are added in order to complete this addictive rhythm, perfectly balanced by carefully placed breakdowns. On Side B there’s another story, one focused more on the evolution of the drumming patterns and the bassline along with the background pads and textures. Here, the variations of the narrative switch more often, going from deep introspective moments to straight dancefloor-driven vibes. A highly recommended 12″ right here!
