Pauli – Solara EP (incl. Ion Ludwig Remix) [Aissa Records]
Canadian imprint Aissa Records returns with its second pressing, this time with Hungarian artist Pauli at the controls alongside Ion Ludwig on remix duties. Titled “Solara EP”, the material provides three uplifting house-infused originals and a deeper re-interpretation of the title track that will surely delight electronic music enthusiasts, collectors and selectors worldwide. The artwork is made by MID Studio while the mastering is signed by Pheek.
Based in Montreal, Aissa Records is a boutique vinyl sub-label of Suleiman Records, founded by DJ/producer Darem Aissa with the intent to promote and produce positive, quality, underground electronic music, taking influences from house, techno and the many amalgamations in between. With more than 2 years since their last release signed by Dubfound and Lee Burton, quality over quantity while keeping it real has been this label’s strict policy. The name of the imprint pays homage to Syrian poet Suleiman Al-Aissa, one of the most prominent contemporary Arab poets.
Currently living in the United Kingdom, Pauli developed a passion for music since he was very young, enrolling on music school and learning how to play various instruments. Settling for electronic music was just a matter of time and, when it happened, he dedicated himself to mixing and writing his own productions which were brought forward under his Paul Mad alias. This period in his career includes performances in cities like Moscow, Berlin, San Francisco and Barcelona as well as releases with Natural Beat Recordings, Wizz Music, ITH Defected, Rawthentic Music, Craft Underground, Body Parts, Suruba X, Spring Tube Limited and Cadenza Lab, to name just a few. With an amazing previous release on Synkronized and a recent guest appearance on Trommel’s In Session podcast series, the future is looking bright for Pauli who invites Ion Ludwig to leave his distinct fingerprint sound on this EP. Let’s dive in and explore the tracks in more depth.
The whole journey of putting this release together has been really exciting! We worked closely with Aissa Records every step of the way and had an incredibly talented team. Working with David Koch (Dewalta) on the mixdown was a big pleasure and I personally learnt a lot from him. Pheek’s final touches and mastering always glitter and Ion Ludwig closes the EP with an absolutely sophisticated rendition. We’re really looking forward to sharing the love with this record!

Side A opens with “Solara” unleashing an energetic house rhythm elegantly complemented by melancholic pads, driving synth stabs and subtle, colourful effects. The breakdown introduces new playful layers to the story, capturing the imagination of the listener as the narrative flows into an organic carousel. Following, “Phase Issue” goes for a more quirky drumming layout, slowly evolving into a powerful tech composition dominated by heavily modulated vocal samples and swinging variations.
On Side B we first find “Flow-Matic”, yet another uplifting piece that can make anyone start dancing in seconds with its electric arrangements and breakbeat-infused percussive core. Here, the layers gracefully intertwine in order to perfectly boost the minimalistic patterns into fully charged sounds, guided by mysterious vocals. Ion Ludwig closes the wax with his remix of the title track revealing a smooth deep house vibe which keeps some of the original elements while the tempo is being raised and additional, ethereal effects come into play. A highly recommended 12″ right here!
