Celebrating 20 years of career as a DJ and producer, having his imprint Fantastic Friends turn 10 and becoming a father, 2019 pushed Nicolas Duvoisin to start working on a more substantial project, exploring wider horizons and stepping out of his comfort zone. After a prolonged yet meticulous process, his first LP titled “Mon Premier” is announced to arrive soon via his record label in a 2×12″ vinyl-only package, delivering an eclectic collection of 9 tracks which explore dub, ambient, minimal and house music. A couple of months ago he was also our guest for the ongoing feeder sound podcast series, dropping an inspiring selection to serve as an introduction for this LP. Listen to the mix below:

Nicolas Duvoisin is well-known for his intense activity in the international electronic music scene, having numerous releases and performances under his belt. Aside from his personal playground, he collaborated with numerous other publishers among which we find Musique Unique, Underground, Snork Enterprises, Circle Music, Splitools, Kina Music and Cervidae Recordings, to name only a few.

Letting his inspiration take him into unknown territories, working without a particular framework or style in mind and starting each cut from scratch, the challenge was to experiment with new approaches and techniques in order to freely express deep emotions, feelings and visions.

The LP sets off with “Check Point”, a slow-paced downtempo composition that elegantly permeates an organic flavour through the speakers, revealing a magical world to the listener who’s directly sent into the vibrant house rhythms of “Nipia” right after. This cut is produced in collaboration with Moggli and the vocal snippets are simply amazing and hypnotic, adding an electric feeling to the whole journey. Following we find “Dub One”, which, just as its title implies, focuses on a dubby atmosphere, where the minimalistic drumming patterns and funky variations sure deliver the vibes. As we switch sides on the first record we come across “Funk The Ride” feat. Agaric, a rolling, thunderous rhythm that keeps the tempo at around 124 BPM yet drops a solid swinging sound and “Stomp”, which closes the B-Side with an uplifting narrative where heavily modulated vocal cuts and several variations create an eerie and dynamic dimension, perfect for the dancefloor.

On the second record we start with “Organic”, an electro-infused piece that evokes old-school arrangements where constant deep textures remain in focus and the percussion creates an ever-lasting driving effect. Next there’s “Church”, a melancholic take that reveals astonishing rotating backgrounds as the solid rhythm renders the outcome to be a must-have choice for peak-time moments at any party. On the flipside things go back to more spacious sounds, as the live recording of “Dream” and “Good Night My Lover” feat. Ben Larsen conclude this amazing material with relaxed sequences and lush texture work. A highly recommended release right here, for collectors and selectors alike!
