Various Artists – Retro Series Vol. 1 [Ukiyo Music]
Italian label Ukiyo Music returns with a Various Artists compilation dedicated to the minimal genre with Emi, Estmode and Pandilla Ltd feat. Akal Anand Kaur being the ones in charge of the production for Retro Series Vol. 1. The 12” packs three solid cuts and arrives in a limited number of 200 copies in 180 gr. vinyl with no repress. The imprint is well-known for its activity in the international scene having published materials from artists like Reclame, Maurice Giovannini, Rares Romanov, ROAR, Randaru, He Did, Sebastian Eric, Hostox, Lixir and Vincent Casanova, among many others.
Side A features “Palilula Nv” by local DJ and producer Emi, known for his releases with Contur, Catren or Playedby. His stripped-back composition properly introduces the record with a solid minimal sound focused on its percussive patterns, prominent bassline and several sinuous variations that add even more balance to the whole journey. Side B opens with “Paesaggio” by Estmode, an abstract piece that reveals a twisted rhythm flavoured with numerous effects, eerie background textures and quirky glitches. Closing the ride, the Pandilla Ltd trio unleashes “Is It Floating” alongside Akal Anand Kaur, a mysterious cut designed with complex looped sequences, a driving bleeping drumming pattern and spacious breakdowns. A must-have wax for minimal lovers right here!
