feeder sound exclusive premiere: Dudley Strangeways – Five Points (Mortalyf Remix) / Point 2 [Leftback]

Dudley Strangeways returns to Leftback Intercities with three original cuts and two quality remixes by Mortalyf and Trixie carefully packed into “Five Points EP”. The material represents the fourth instalment in the sublabel’s digital catalogue which includes productions signed by Empat and Cosmic Clap, aside from today’s protagonists. Early support arrives from the likes of Herck, Kepler, TIJN, Annie Errez and Zenk.

From main time rollers to breakbeat starters, Five Points delivers a steaming minimal sound which includes Dudley’s sharp vision of stripped-back rhythms, Mortalyf’s ever-developing trademark sound and Trixie’s own energy, who’s been somewhat of a regular at Leftback events, but this is her first outing on the imprint. We invite you to discover the album and enjoy two of the tracks on our exclusive premiere column:

Dudley Strangeways – Five Points (Mortalyf Remix)

“Myself and Dudley have been in the studio a lot recently which allowed me to create a remix which was very complimentary to his style and the original track. I stripped back a lot of the track adding back in my own drums and effects, allowing original elements of the track to flow in and out. A key element I wanted to keep was the rolling groove of the original but slightly more low slung.” – Mortalyf

Dudley Strangeways – Point 2

“The track was put together fairly quickly as the main part of the melody is a sample, which was taken from an old Japanese record from the 1970s. I enjoy looking for interesting instruments from records and close to my city is a really cool second-hand shop that has bins upon bins of world music, which I dig through maybe 2 or 3 times every year and get a load of samples from. Once the track was recorded into Ableton it was then just a case of finding where it looped and finding some alternative loops that would work with the main section to compliment and extend the original part. I think I used the RD8 for the hats and a sampled kick that was beefed up a little processing and sequenced out with some automation for the break.” – Dudley Strangeways

LBIC004 is out now on the label’s Bandcamp page for an exclusive four week period before being available in all stores on the 30th November. Listen to the snippets below:
