feeder sound exclusive premiere: Rares Romanov – Saints and Suicide [Elarum]

After recently launching a fresh digital series on Bandcamp, Moscow-based record label Elarum returns to its vinyl output with Rares Romanov at the controls. “Saints and Suicide” reveals three original takes where a full range of minimal rhythms, non-standard moves and immersive atmospheres are presented, while Vlf‘s remix delivers an equally enjoyable driving sound. The pressing arrives in the second part of November exclusively on vinyl in a limited number of copies.

Based in Bucharest, Rares Romanov managed to release some of his productions on iconic labels and play a large number of sets in different parts of the world in a relatively short time since his first official appearance on the Romanian scene. Constantly exploring various genres and always looking for ways to polish his style, he blends various elements rooted in house, techno and minimal in order to bring forward a distinct sound that can inspire party-goers and selectors alike. Last year he launched his own imprint Dynastique with a solid three-tracker from which “Dupa Ploi” made its way to our exclusive premiere column. Listen to the track below:

His latest material, “Saints and Suicide”, delivers a more abstract vibe, flavoured with intricate layering and complex narratives. Let’s go on a trippy journey with the full-length title track on feeder sound:

The cut kicks in with a solid percussive pattern which strays off from your normal 4/4, going for a breakbeat-like arrangement, while the background layers and quirky effects slowly make their way through the elements. The heavy-modulated vocal sample reveals the idea behind the whole concept, adding an extra eerie dimension. Following on Side A, we find Vlf‘s re-interpretation spinning on a more dancefloor-oriented vibration, crafted with spacious breakdowns and a steady-paced minimalistic rhythm.

On Side B first there’s “Birds Never Sin”, a glitchy and obscure take designed with numerous rhythmic variations and crisp drumming that will definitely make your mind melt and drift away. Closing, “Cosmic Archive” drops a solid, wobbling bassline that leads the track into uncharted territories while the percussion and complementary sounds rotate around it with a hypnotic result. A highly recommended record right here!
