feeder sound exclusive premiere: Lumieux – Self Image [AKTA Records]

French imprint AKTA Records returns with Volume 3 of its Various Artists compilation series launched last year, this time with Lumieux, Hendriks Toth and Cosmic Clap alongside label head Romain Proust at the production. The 12” features a polished, groovy minimal sound, each track having its distinct approach to stripped-down rhythms carefully emphasised in the arrangements. The two previous records from the series invited artists like Silat Beksi, Crocodile Soup, Loxique and Ramona Yacef to freely express themselves and contribute to the growth of the underground vinyl culture.

💥 Lumieux opens AKR03 with “Self Image”, a joyous, swinging minimalistic composition designed with prominent percussive patterns, a solid bass oscillation and subtle, electric background microlayers. Enjoy the track in full-length exclusively on feeder sound:

“I like to think that this track represents me, as you can see by the name, being full of feelings and having a wonderful story behind. Most of my tracks are related to my personal life and this one is no exception.” – Lumieux

We recently premiered “Wonky Machine” taken from “Unreleased Work Vol. 2”, dispatched by the artist on Bandcamp in March during the lockdown. Listen to the track below:

At the end of last year, he released “Dreamliner EP” through the local label Sintope Vinyl Series and the title track made its way to our exclusive premiere column:

On the same side of the record we find Romain with “Let It Go”, a bass-heavy syncopated piece that delivers a hypnotic vibe through its uncanny variations. Broken beats, funky pads and serious micro modulations, you can hear them all, organically floating above the core elements. On the flipside, Toth’s “Ended In Karachi” goes for a darker sound while keeping a steady-paced progression throughout the whole journey. Things get a bit abstract here in the background as the eerie effects and additional instruments create intricate secondary points of focus. Closing, “Octopus” by Cosmic Clap reveals a dubby and techy rhythm where the rotation of the layers delivers a trance-like aquatic vibration. A highly recommended collectable right here, for selectors and enthusiasts alike!
