J Appiah drops new single Chains via his label 19fifty7

J Appiah releases his first solo single – ‘Chains’ – of 2020 via his imprint 19fifty7. Produced by Ruckspin, who has previously worked with Submotion Orchestra, ‘Chains’ is an elegant electronic masterpiece with poetic freedom at its core.

With a back catalogue that has seen J feature on tracks with the likes of Footsie, Damian Lazarus, Michael Kiwanuka to name a few, his personal tastes are perfectly reflected in his incredibly diverse musical output. Having previously been distracted by touring the world as a highly in-demand backing vocalist (Jess Glynne & Wilkinson), the silver lining of the current climate is that he finally has time to focus on his solo material.

Launched last year, 19fifty7 is a label with democratising black art at the heartbeat of everything they release. Celebrating artists across the African diaspora as well as on the continent, the label covers all genres from electronic to rock, R&B to pop and everything in between.

With J’s attention set on his own music, he’s ready to start revealing his harddrive.
