Ogni – Destiny EP [Ogni Tapes]
After two EPs dispatched through Mobilee Records and Oblack Label, Saktu, Tobi Neumann and Dave Vega aka Ogni present the first pressing coming from their own freshly founded imprint, Ogni Tapes. Titled “Destiny EP”, the wax features two uplifting original tracks and two remixes signed by house music masters Dorian Paic and Tripmastaz, who’s also a part of the jury panel for the feeder sound Open Call for producers.
Started in 2016 as a collaborative project between the three artists, Ogni always delivered top-notch electronic music in the studio as well as at the club. Their use of analogue gear and modular racks is reflected in a raw, organic and engaging sound while their selections incorporate various shades of house, techno and minimal music. The trio is making music in Berlin’s Apollo Studio and performed in countries like Russia, Thailand, Ukraine and The Czech Republic while in Germany they usually organise showcase events at Club Der Visionaere and Hoppetosse. Listen to the snippets and then let’s dive in this release for a closer look.
The title track “Destiny” opens the EP with a swinging rhythm that is elegantly complemented by warm background pads and alluring vocal cuts that call for a dance. The drumming sequences provide the arrangement with numerous variations, taking the cut in an ever-evolving sonic journey while the wobbling bassline rolls with a funky flavour. Dorian Paic‘s re-interpretation maintains the original energy while stripping some of the layers down and inserting equally playful pieces, concluding the A-Side with style.
On Side B we find “Vesta” which reveals an entrancing vibration built with driving percussion, house-infused elements and progressive approaches. The modulations have a hypnotic effect and are perfectly balanced by spacious patterns and lively notes. The drifting sensation is also felt on the remix delivered by Tripmastaz while the original rhythm receives deep-house nuances here, making this 12” a must-have for any collector or selector which enjoys having so much diversity and energy packed in one record.
