Ohm & Octal Industries – See You At Dawn EP [Vade Mecum]

Vade Mecum returns with yet another amazing release, bringing forward four fresh tracks signed by Icelandic artists Ohm & Octal Industries. Titled “See You At Dawn EP”, the 12” is designed with deep and spacious dub techno rhythms, perfect for introspective states of mind. The material adds even more flavour to the label’s discography which includes collaborations with Yakine, Teluric, Suciu, Glueped, Merv, Matt Thibideau under his Altitude alias and his brother Mark Thibideau.

Founded in 2015 by Iulian Cazan aka Jay Bliss who also runs Stomping Grounds, the imprint focuses on delivering atmospheric and organic dub-infused soundscapes. With an intense activity on both local and international scenes which started back in the late ’90s, Iulian is also a part of the jury panel for the recently launched Open Call for DJs and producers. Be sure to check out the contest and feel free to participate if you feel inspired. Being creative in these tough times we’re all experiencing right now can be highly rewarding.

Bjarnar Jonsson aka Ohm and Jonas Thor Gudmundsson aka Octal Industries are both acclaimed veterans of the contemporary techno scene and collaborated many times before, releasing their music with Thule Records, Taped Artifact, Nilla, Rawax, Solid Groove, Luck Of Access, Outlaw and Gartenhaus. They also run AE Recordings Ltd which operates as a sublabel for Reykjavik-based Thule Records and dispatched music from artists like Richie Hawtin, Zitron (Yagya), GusGus, Thor, Exos, Kvadrant and Oculus. Their sound incorporates elements from techno, ambient and dub and every time they work on something, innovation and fresh perspectives are included by default.

Ohm & Octal Industries - See You At Dawn EP [Vade Mecum] 02

The EP is characterized by deeply soothing atmospheres, warm textures and melancholic harmonies lead by drumming patterns which spin between 122 and 124 bpm. The tracks are designed around minimalistic structures, yet the organic flow of all the layers create beautiful and immersive soundscapes. Reverberated chords and delayed effects leave enough breathing space for each composition to be thoroughly enjoyed, staying true to the sonic aesthetics of the genre.
