Ema Remedi – Outsider EP [Visionquest]

Berlin-based DJ and producer Ema Remedi drops “Outsider EP” with Visionquest, bringing forward four original cuts, with one of them being a collaborative work with Sol. Founded by Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss and Seth Troxler, the label is widely known for its rich discographic history, which includes materials from artists like Guy Gerber, Footprintz, Tale Of Us, Cesar Merveille, Mirko Loko, Butch, Deadbeat, Vinyl Speed Adjust, Iuly. B and Floog, to name only a few.

Born in Uruguay, Ema Remedi has been sharpening her crafts as a DJ and producer for over 10 years, bringing her distinct style to events all over the world, from Badaboum in Paris to D-Edge in Brazil. Frequently seen behind the decks at standout clubs like Hoppetosse, Goldengate, Sisyphos and Club der Visionaire, where she holds a summer residency, Ema has also released her productions with imprints like Piros, Sketches Records, Loosen Up, Raw Trax, Arms & Legs, Aurea Music Lab and Unlock Recordings.

Given her extended knowledge and experience with modern electronic music, she is also a part of the jury for the feeder sound Open Call for DJs and producers, which starts on the 6th of April 2020.

“Even Odds” opens Side A with a pumping sound infused with a twisted, pitched vocal sample, spacious build-ups and soothing background pads. The strong bassline and percussion provide relentless energy while the dissonance of the synth layers elegantly add a hypnotic effect overall. Following, “Why” spins even faster, offering deep low-end bass frequencies, glitched drumming sequences and a heavy modulated vocal layer that leads the rhythm.

On Side B we first find, “Open Closing”, a gentle and dreamy piece characterised by a playful arpeggio that keeps everything on the move. The warm synth oscillations and the steady-paced tempo create a perfect balance, as the atmospheric nature of the complementary layers provides a powerful contrast. Closing the wax there’s “No Sun, No Problem” featuring Sol, a mysterious techy journey built with filtered vocals, punchy chords and twinkling keys that spin upward. Here, the minimal influence is felt stronger as the accent falls on the uplifting drumming and the way that the structure seems to rotate around its core elements.
