Various – DRUZHBA009 [Druzhba]
Berlin-based vinyl-only imprint Druzhba presents its ninth instalment in the form of a Various Artists compilation which features four tracks signed by Sakro, stevn.aint.leavn, David Gtronic in collaboration with Guy From Downstairs and Atree. Titled DRUZHBA009 after its catalogue number, the 12” is designed with vibrant rhythms and arrives in a limited number of copies, so make sure you grab yours in time!
Founded in 2016, the German record label so far published amazing EPs from Triptil, Rick Wade, Dhaze, Laughing Man and Patrice Meiner, as well as three other VAs where artists like Ed Herbst, Worker Union, Jamahr, Maik Yells, Just_Me and Monika Ross are to be found amongst the contributors.
Mexican DJ and producer Sakro opens Side A with “Breeze”, an uptempo straight house cut that will get your body moving in no time. The composition is flavoured with deep filtered pads, the drumming is crisp and resonant while grainy swirling effects can be heard from time to time, adding a classic twist to the whole journey. With productions dispatched on Houseworx, Visionquest, Raum…musik, Housewax, Vatos Locos, Mulen Records and his own Bon Vivant as well as numerous performances around the world, he’s definitely an established name in the scene, enjoying support from a lot of renowned artists. Following, we find co-owner of Beste Modus and Certain Circles Stefan Marx aka stevn.aint.leavn with “Mori”, a more techy piece designed with prominent drumming patterns, warm background textures and spacious build-up moments. There’s a minimalistic influence here, as the stripped-down structure of the track reveals the layers one by one, creating a dynamic progression.
On Side B we first find “Plutonio” by David Gtronic and local talent Guy From Downstairs, an uncanny deeper cut characterised by a distinct percussive core and bright atmospheric arrangements. The subtle glitched drums blend perfectly with the laid-back colours of the complementary layers providing a summer-like feeling. Closing, Atree drops an acidic and electro-infused rhythm titled “Miami Nice”, powered by a very funky wobbling bassline and breakbeat inspired percussion. The electric synth work and filtered effects permeate throughout the composition making this track perfect for any dancefloor.
