Vid – No Ginger No Fun EP [Visage LTD]

After its successful debut in 2018 with Moratu and Crihan at the controls, French imprint Visage LTD returns with its second pressing, a solid three tracker signed by local artist Sorin Rastoaca aka Vid. The 12” also features Andu Simion from Lisière Collectif on remix duties, making the wax a must-have for any collector or selector.

Vid has been riding the waves lately, dispatching EPs with labels like Red Pig Flower‘s Sound Of Vast, the freshly established local imprint AVi Records, the Italian label Hashplant, as well as with his own personal playground An|dromeda. At the same time, he performed at several events in Bacau, Targu Mures, Cluj-Napoca and Iasi, sharing the decks with Vlad Bretan, Raresh, Primarie, Cally, Ted Amber, Herodot and Vlf amongst others. Let’s dive in deep into his latest material and explore the tracks in more detail.

Side A features “Attracted”, a deep minimalistic composition designed with abstract textures, dark undertones, haunting piano notes and heavy modulated vocals and effects. The rhythm flows steadily revealing spacious build-ups and variations, making the piece perfect to be played on dimly lighted dancefloors. On the B-Side we first find the title track “No Ginger No Fun” revealing a more uplifting atmosphere while the immersive feeling of the previous cut is kept and taken even further down the path. The percussive elements have distinct filters applied and the deep patterns of the background layers can instantly teleport one into an introspective journey. Closing the EP, Andu Simion works his magic on A1, taking the piece into a dubby and acidic dimension flavoured with syncopated drumming sequences and bright pads, setting the mood to be in contrast with the original.
