Traumer – Assembling Pieces [Berg Audio]

The well-known French DJ and producer Romain Reynaud aka Traumer presents “Assembling Pieces” on Berg Audio, an incredible 3×12” LP that marks the label’s eleventh release from the Monument series. The album also features three collaborations with Steve O’Sullivan and local artists Cristi Cons and Priku, while the artwork is signed by the talented Juli Jah.

The Parisian mastermind is an established presence on the international electronic music scene for quite some time now, having a rich discographic history published by labels like Herzblut Recordings, Ventura Records, Skryptöm, Desolat, Rekids, Cocoon, Possible Futures, Infuse, All Inn Records and Abartik, to name only a few. He’s also the founder and owner of GETTRAUM, an imprint focused on his productions, exposing his distinct vision on music through his own sensibility. Throughout the years, Traumer also released several materials using different aliases while touring the world and sharing the decks with top names in the scene. His style easily oscillates between genres, going from jazzy deep house and smooth, sensible minimalistic productions to straight, ecstatic techno, reflecting the deepness of his creativity and the ability to work and deliver a complex sound.

For this LP he teams up with Steve O’Sullivan, known for his intense activity in the scene since the ’90s, with Cristi Cons, half of SIT and co-owner of Amphia alongside with Vlad Caia, as well as with Priku, who runs Motif and Atipic.

The first record opens with the long-awaited “Baud”, an organic and bouncy composition flavoured with acidic themes and electric voices that call for a dance. The energetic feeling of the track is passed over to “Assembling Pieces”, which displays an elegant combination between pumping percussive elements, dubby chords and echoed patterns. On the B-Side, “Senses” reveals a deeper and spacious rhythm built in collaboration with Steve O’Sullivan while “Listen” flows with melodic, playful pads and whispered vocal cuts.

The second part of the LP is introduced by “Strap”, an engaging track that features intricate variations and carefully crafted build-ups, while the following “Square Up” offers an old-school vibration perfect to be played at peak time moments at any party. On the flipside, Priku leaves his fingerprint on “Operation”, going for a more stripped-down and crispy drumming sequence fused with reverberating synth notes and bright background soundscapes. Next, “Tydar” offers a rolling rhythm designed with funky micropatterns and filtered layers that go through various transitions, keeping the listener focused on the sophisticated ramifications.

The third record kicks off with “Reverso”, a remarkable piece of audio engineering which also sees Cristi Cons at the controls. Here, the sound travels to a dreamy dimension with its solid and groovy bassline, progressive inserts and mellifluent textures. “Sea Of Clouds” dispatches an equally eerie sensation, switching to a maritime rhythm infused with electric modulations and fluid arrangements. Closing, we find “Boarding”, a mellow cut that gracefully ends the journey with a wobbling bassline and a sumptuous broken beat in focus. An essential piece for any vinyl collector and selector right here!
