Red Pig Flower – This Is Not Love [mousikētekhnē]

The freshly founded record label mousikētekhnē presents its first pressing signed by multidisciplinary artist Red Pig Flower. Titled “This Is Not Love”, the 12” features three original tracks and a remix signed by local artist Funk E while the amazing artwork is provided by Amuleto Manuela. Based in Berlin, the imprint’s name is inspired by the association between ancient Greek words “mousike” and “techne“, which translates to “art/music of/for the Muses“.

A visual artist, DJ, producer and label owner, Red Pig Flower stands out with a unique way of expressing herself through music and art, bringing forward a variety of experimental projects. Her sound incorporates a multitude of genres and subgenres, going from trippy minimal, playful house and driving techno to tribal grooves and ambient textures. As a selector, she performed in numerous acclaimed venues around the world sharing the decks with established names in the scene, while her productions were dispatched by labels like Brise Records, Frucht, Luos Recordings, Runemark, Baile Musik and Vandalism Black Series. In 2014 she co-founded Sound Of Vast which published materials from Vid aka Egal 3, Cosmin TRG aka Com Sin, The People In Fog, The Mole and herself of course, amongst others.

Naming the EP, “This Is Not Love” opens the wax with hypnotic soundscapes built with minimalistic percussive elements, dubby atmospheres and alluring vocal cuts. Flowing at a steady pace, the composition builds tension through multiple variations that reveal a mysterious story. The feeling is passed over to “Following White Rabbit” which goes even deeper, delivering an uncanny rhythm infused with heavy modulated voices, echoed violin strings and gloomy background textures.

Side B opens with the remix of the title track delivered by Funk E who’s well-known for his releases with Raum Musik, Great Empty Circle, The Rabbit Hole, Floorpiece, Desolat, All Inn, The Double R, Mulen, Unlock Recordings and Pleasure Zone, to name a few. Here, he transforms the original into a dynamic rollercoaster by adding a solid bassline to a rearranged percussive core, yet keeping to the organic nature of the sounds. Closing, “Memory Diving” returns to the immersive ambience present on the A-Side, with tribal and psychedelic motifs subtly introduced to the combination, along with eerie sampled vocals and effects that enhance the whole journey.
