Chrivu – Music Brought Me Here EP [Midas Touch]
The first pressing delivered by Macarie‘s freshly established record label Midas Touch is signed by Chrivu, a young and talented artist based in Iasi, Romania. Titled “Music Brought Me Here”, the EP features three original cuts and a remix dropped by Vlad Arapasu with early support coming from Priku, Cosmjn and others. Taking its name from Greek mythology, the imprint is set to make waves in the scene and aims to bring forward top-quality micro and deep house while exploring modern dance music with no boundaries.
A newcomer on the local scene, Chrivu displays a unique style when it comes to combining minimal, techno and other subgenres. With a couple of independent releases on Bandcamp and “Sonant Shiver EP” published on Tzinah Records in 2017, he’s definitely working his way up, revealing a melodic and clean sound. As a DJ, he made a few appearances in his hometown, Bucharest and Copenhagen, having his name on line-ups among Valentino Kanzyani, Arapu, Haokah, Groovesh, Lixir, Sonohat, Tight Cherry and others.
Side A opens with the title track “Music Brought Me Here”, a groovy composition designed with playful elements and warm melodies. The percussion is minimalistic and incorporates breakbeat influences while the funky bassline remains in focus throughout. Following, there’s “In Charge” combining long mechanical build-ups with fast transmitted sound bursts. The background has a subtle dark undertone yet the modulations create a bright journey.
On Side B we find “Linear Spaces” and its remix. While the original cut is uplifting and flavoured with abstract sounds, glitched patterns and a solid pulsating bassline, Vlad adds his distinct touch on the re-interpretation taking it even further into the realms of minimal music. The track receives electric sweeps, wobbling sequences and more spacious breaks, all crafted with great attention to the rhythm.
