Aprapta & Ramona Yacef – Something New [Baile Musik]

Based in Frankfurt am Main, the well-known imprint Baile Musik presents “Something New”, a solid three tracker signed by label residents Aprapta and Ramona Yacef. The 12” features one solo track by each artist on Side A and a collaborative composition that gives the EP its name on Side B. Founded in 2009, the record label brings forward various shades of house and techno music in both digital and vinyl format while also managing side projects like Baile Musik Silver Edition, Baile Musik White and Deep Department. Their catalogue is huge and incorporates materials from artists all over the world including Mariano Mateljan, Dubphone, Andu Simion, F.eht, Scott Kemp, Silat Beksi, Marko Nastic, Basti Grub, Daniel Broesecke and Yaroslav Lenzyak, to name only a few.

Aprapta is a DJ, producer and label-head at Aprapta Music, a project that has developed itself throughout the years until it was perfected. Specialised in minimal, techno, house and experimental music, his sounds have been published by Matcha Music, Moan Recordings, Movida Records and FreundSein Recordings, aside from the works dispatched through his own playground. For this wax, he teams up with Ramona Yacef, an established music-maker living and working in Paris. As a part of the We Play The Music We Love collective she sharpened her skills as a selector in Italy, while also spending a lot of time in the studio between gigs and radio shows. She shared the decks with artists like Maya Jane Coles, Dandy Jack, Praslea, Raresh, Seth Troxler and released some of her productions with Celo Rec, Raw Trax and Akta Records.

Side A opens with “Round & Round”, an intricate minimalistic piece dropped by Aprapta. The track slowly builds tension revealing alluring modulated vocals and crisp textures rolling over glitched percussive elements, backed up by a solid bassline. Following, Ramona Yacef unleashes “La Chiave Di Svolta”, a minimal tech cut focused on the percussion and the uncanny arrangements of the background layers. Flavoured with intense drumming sequences, delayed trumpets and subtle strings the cut flows at a steady pace while providing swift variations. On Side B we find both artists with the title track, which, just as the name implies, delivers “Something New”. Here, the micro rhythm creates a complex sound narrative through the use of vocal samples, melodic piano inserts and elegant bright pads.
