Vlad Arapasu – Kontent 001 [Kontent]
This year proved to be a very good one for Vlad Arapasu who dispatched two solid EPs with Atipic and Eastenderz, some steaming remixes for Cerec and Daniel Broesecke, as well as delightful selections from Romania to France, Israel, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brasil, Ecuador, Colombia and Australia. It is time now for him to take his career to the next level with the announcement of “Kontent 001”, published by his own freshly founded imprint, Kontent. The 12” features three fresh and original cuts exploring the sound dimension between visceral percussion and spellbinding textures, with early support coming from Barac, Mihigh, Petre Inspirescu, Cosmjn and Lizz.
Since 2017 when he began working on his solo project, Vlad collaborated with Subtil, Uvar and Tooloop, while his participation to Micro Orbit Records’ “Planet Sides” VA has been confirmed for December, joining Herck, Costin Rp and Zenk. His creativity in the studio followed an ascending path, with his tracks becoming more and more expressive as he experimented with various styles, techniques and gear. He’s also widely known for his collaborations with Robert Apetrei as Dubsons with whom he established Algorhythmic in 2015 and Nu Zau, who joined the duo to form Nusons.
The wax opens with “Blue Birds”, a playful melodic composition designed with rich atmospheres and warm chords balanced by a driving percussive core. Tension is built through spacious moments, ethereal modulations and effects while liquid piano notes will make your mind start wandering. Next, there’s the more introspective “Amazing 1104” delivering the groovy vibes, with reverberating patterns and whispered voices creating a mysterious ambience. This mood is explored in more depth on the B Side, where the darker sound of “Sulfuras” dives into hypnotic waters that shift and quiver. Here, the strong percussion and murky bassline are flavoured with glitched vocal samples, adding even more resonance to the whole piece. An amazing debut for the label right here!
