The third instalment coming from Cedesciu Wax presents the first full solo EP signed by local artist Macarie. Titled “Play by Play”, the 12” features three analogue cuts showcasing the artist’s house and minimal mastery, with early support coming from the likes of Sepp, Nu Zau, Vinyl Speed Adjust, Vlad Arapasu and Crihan.

Alexandru Macarie is well-known for his amazing selections for quite some time now as he travelled a lot sharing the decks with top-notch names in the scene. His sound reveals an intricate blend of minimalistic themes, house and techno rhythms, immersive atmospheric sequences and melodic patterns. This long-awaited release follows his production work dispatched with Alter Hour, Arupa Music and Algorhythmic, where last year he dropped a track on their ALG004 VA alongside Piktor under the Dancot2 alias.

Adding to a catalogue so far signed by Sonohat and Robert Apetrei, “Play by Play” has its own distinct flavour, standing as an argument for the daring vision on electronic dance music the Miami-based record label Cedesciu Wax brings forward. Run and curated by Marco Santamaria aka Lulla, the imprint is an important cornerstone for the microhouse, minimal and techno community from the United States.

On Side A we find the title track “Step by Step”, a rotating electric rhythm designed with progressive arrangements, crisp percussion and various effects and micropatterns. There’s also a heavy modulated vocal sample that adds an eerie dimension to the whole while building tension at the same time. The solid bassline is complimented by reverberating riffs coming from a dreamy guitar with the cut flowing at a steady pace.

On Side B “Bid Was High” steps up the game with a faster tempo, swirling harmonics and bright pads. The carefully crafted combination delivers a solid dancefloor killer and reveals the artist’s skills when it comes to music-making. Closing the wax, “Iapa Stella” unfolds a futuristic sound infused with multiple effects and modulations, evolving atmospheres and exotic background textures.
